Dance Injury Prevention Workshop
Every dancer wants to improve their performance – that starts with keeping them in the studio and on stage. Injuries can throw a monkey wrench in that. So, how do we keep dancers injury-free?
The injury prevention workshop will answer questions like:
I get it. I’ve been there. I’ve been the one trying to answer these questions for myself. Growing up, my mom tried to help me answer them. 99.9% of the time, we were guessing. We had no idea where to even start to get HELPFUL answers – not the “Rest for 2 weeks and slowly work back into it” advice – we got plenty of that – and “Just do a few jumping jacks. That will warm you up.”
Dancers…
Have you ever worried “Will I be replaced if I say I’m injured?” and thought “I can’t let anyone down. I have to perform.”
What if you could end your season stronger than you started, rather than tired and exhausted?
Parents…
Have you ever been afraid of how all this dancing will affect your child in the long-run?
How would it feel to be in the audience grinning from ear to ear as they nail that turn sequence that they struggled with for months?
The goal of the workshop is to take you from scared of what might happen to healthy and confident.
Dancers will walk away with an understanding of how to better care for themselves in order to prevent injuries and improve performance now and in the future – including proper warm-up, use of tools, recognizing and managing aches, and knowing when and to whom to report pains.
Parents/guardians of minor-age dancers are encouraged to be present for the entire workshop and are STRONGLY encouraged to attend the last 15 minutes of the workshop for the Q&A section. Please note – unfortunately chairs will not be available, but there will be plenty of standing/sitting space around the edges of the room.
The injury prevention workshop will answer questions like:
- How do I know the difference between soreness and injury?
- Ice or heat?
- I think it’s an injury. Now what?
- If stretching isn’t warming up, what should I be doing instead?
- What can I do today to keep myself healthy, injury-free, and on stage?

Hi there! I am Dr. Meghan Gearhart and I own Head2Toe Physical Therapy, Dance Medicine & Performance.
I have the privilege of providing youth and adolescent dancers the specialized support they deserve while recovering from injuries and improving their performance - while providing answers and direction for dance parents trying to navigate the delicate balance between their child's happiness and long-term health. I am so excited to offer the Dancer Wellness Workshop Series this summer! It's a great opportunity for your dancer to learn how to level up their performance without overloading themselves with another dance class, and gives you the opportunity to connect with someone who can answer those burning questions that you've had all year but weren't sure who to ask. I can't wait to work with you and your dancer ❤ |
